Licuna

LICUNA takes its name from an imagined hybrid between Linuche unguiculata and Pelagia noctiluca, two jellyfish species whose forms suggest lightness, translucency, and protection. From Linuche, the mask borrows the idea of a compact bell structure with rhythmic folds; from noctiluca, it takes the sense of glow, drift, and hidden danger. The holes in Licuna explore the porous anatomy of jellyfish and other marine organisms, where openings are connected to movement, feeding, and the circulation of water. In the mask, these hollow spaces reduce weight and allow the form to feel breathable, almost suspended, while also creating a visual rhythm similar to canals, membranes, and soft tissue cavities. Through biomimicry, Licuna becomes a wearable marine shell, shaped by hollow space, soft volume, and the fragile strength of jellyfish anatomy.
