Cicada
Product Design2026
A mask developed through biomimicry and inspired by the cicada, an insect known for its protective exoskeleton, transparent wings, and powerful sound production. Rather than copying the insect directly, the piece studies how its body protects, amplifies, and transforms. The mask translates these biological features into a wearable shell. Its raised ridges and symmetrical openings suggest exoskeletal armor, while the side structures echo the lightness and veining of wings. The hollow spaces give the piece a sense of acoustic potential, as if the mask could filter breath or amplify voice. Cicada becomes a second skin shaped by protection, vibration, and emergence.
