Second Anatomy
SECOND ANATOMY is Yanly's first solo exhibition, a series of eleven mask designs that push biomimicry beyond function and into its most extreme visual possibilities. Presented at Surgery Space, Seoul, opening 6 June 2026. As a designer/artist, Yanly approaches the mask as an extension of the body — as an organ, bone structure, or sensory extension. The works imagine how the human face could still evolve if it borrowed its shapes, structures, and survival strategies from nature. Rather than treating the mask as a purely wearable object, the exhibition reimagines it as a speculative body part. Each piece traverses the boundaries between protection, perception, and transformation. They suggest forms that feel at once biological and sculptural, familiar and unfamiliar. These works exist between eyewear, utility gear, sculpture, and future anatomy. Each mask asks the same question: how much of the future body can be inspired by nature? What will be the second anatomy?
